Our Mission

Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Stokes County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Preamble

Habitat for Humanity of Stokes County, Inc., shall seek to sponsor specific projects in habitat development, starting with the construction of modest / affordable / adequate housing, and to associate with other groups functioning with purposes consistent with those listed below:

  1. To witness the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world by working in cooperation with God's people in need to create a better human habitat in which to live and work.
  2. To witness the gospel of Jesus Christ by working in cooperation with other agencies and groups which have a kindred purpose.
  3. To witness the gospel of Jesus Christ through loving acts and the spoken and written word.
  4. To witness the gospel of Jesus Christ by enabling and expanding the number of persons from all walks of life to particpate in this ministry.

Our History

  • Organizing efforts by a small group of concerned Stokes County citizens began in 1998. These efforts led to the formation of an affiliate, Habitat for Humanity of Stokes County, which was approved by Habitat for Humanity International in 2001. An affiliate is an autonomous, nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization operated by people at the local level.
  • Completed construction of 1st House in King and dedicated in October 2001.
  • Completed construction of 2nd House on in Walnut Cove and dedicated in January 2003.
  • Completed construction of 3rd House in Sandy Ridge and dedicated in June 2005.
  • Completed construction of 4th House in King in and dedicated in August 2006.
  • Completed construction of 5th House in Walnut Cove and dedicated in June 2008.
  • In addition to the homes constructed, Habitat purchased property on East Dalton Road in downtown King in July, 2009, and developed our Office and a Rummage Sale (Future Restore) area. 
  • Completed construction of 6th House in Pinnacle and dedicated in August 2009.
  • Completed construction of 7th house in the Madison / Sandy Ridge area and dedicated in January 2012,
  • Completed construction of 8th house in Pinnacle and dedicated in May 2013.
  • Completed construction of 9th house in King and dedicated in July 2014.
  • Opened ReStore 3 days per week on February 11, 2017.
  • Began construction of the 10th House in King in 2017.
